2026 LAY SERVANT MINISTRIES CLASSES We are pleased to present one Basic and six Advanced Lay Servant Ministries Courses this spring, open to anyone in the conference. There is a $10 registration fee plus the cost of the books for each course you wish to take. Please send a check made payable to LIE District for ten dollars with LSM in the note section and mail to: Robert Whyte, at 319 Providence Dr., Islip Terrace, NY 11752. Please use this registration link for instructions and registration. Registration deadline is February 8,2026. The Basic course will take place via Zoom on Sundays from 5 pm – 7 pm. February 22, March 1,8 15, and 22,. Rev. Lydia Han will be the instructor. This course is designed to help you use your God given talents to serve the church. Lay Servants are NOT required to preach. Disciples in the Marketplace: Seeing Grace at Work, will take place via Zoom on Saturdays 10 am- 12pm. February 21, 28, March 7,14, and 21. Rev. Dr. Marjorie Nunes will be the instructor. A fresh understanding of how our ordinary work lives already respond to God’s grace for the life of the world. No book required for this class, but, you will have to watch five videos, one each week before class. From Your Heart to Theirs: Delivering an Effective Sermon will take place via Zoom on Sundays 4pm-6pm February 22, March 1, 8, 15, and 22. Rev. Calvin Collins will be the instructor Move beyond the basics of public speaking and explore many types of sermons. The book needed is From Your Heart to Theirs Participant guide.
Lay Pastoral Care Giving will take place via Zoom on Mondays 7pm-9pm; February 23, March 2, 9,16, and 23. Rev. Lynda Bates-Stepe will be the instructor. Laity will learn how to reach out with God’s love and care to others. The book required is Lay Pastoral Care Giving.
Lay Servants as Christian Transformational Leaders will take place via Zoom on Thursdays 7pm-9pm February 26, March 5,12, 19 and 26.. Rev. Wayne Redman will be the instructor. This course will guide Lay Servants seeking to be more empowered to lead their congregations toward vitality. The book required is Lay Servants as Christian Transformational Leaders Participant guide.
Lay Servants Lead Conflict Resolution will take place via Zoom on Saturdays 1pm – 3 pm February 28, March 7, 14, 21, and 28. Rev. Kenneth McQuiller will be the instructor. . Lay Servants will be equipped to and empowered to help lead through times of conflict as a time of transformation. The book required for this class is The Spirit and Art of Conflict Transformation.
Living Our United Methodist Beliefs take place via Zoom on Thursdays
7 pm - 9 pm. February 26, March 5,12,19 & 26. Elaine Short, CLM will be the instructor. Explore the special gifts of theology, witness and organization of the United Methodist Church. The book required for this class is Living Our Beliefs The Methodist Way
